Not dead yet!

June 24th, 2009

Wow, I’ve been neglecting this place pretty badly lately, huh? Between job-hunting, art blocks, and general life distractions, I’d almost forgotten I had a blog. I’ll try to be a little more on the ball from here on out.

Belated Harvey James Catgirl

Man, I forgot about this one…

I missed Harvey James’ catgirl bandwagon last week. Check out his full collection of submissions!

Diana and the Peeping Toms - Illustration Final

April 27th, 2009

mollyfinal

This still has loads and loads of flaws (that flipper hand, arrgh!), but I think this was the piece where I finally felt like I was starting to get a grip on Painter. The colours turned out almost exactly the way I wanted them to, even if the definition is still pretty wonky.

Those two peeping toms in the background are going to be turned into rabbits or something the minute she turns around, and will probably be torn apart by their own hunting dogs shortly after. Nobody ever said Greek mythology was pretty.

Flycatcher

flycatcher

Finished reading Fables: The Good Prince a while back. It was great to see Fly really come into his own and come out the other end kicking booty in the most peaceful way possible. Flycatcher is love <3

Ranka Lee

ranka

Finished watching Macross Frontier with MT a while back, so some fanart was inevitable. Ranka got on my nerves a bit, but I loved her puppy hair, cute outfits, and froggy cell phone.

OBJECTION

April 24th, 2009

objection

A couple of weeks ago, I had a dream where I was stuck in a rapidly ascending elevator with a bunch of obnoxious pop-culture icons who would not shut up. The only specific one I can remember now was Davy Jones a la Phoenix Wright, and… now that I think of it, I’m pretty sure he was wearing a judge’s wig. On top of the tentacles.

Whaddaya think? Are the speed lines too irritating?

Photoshop and Painter practice. It’s been a long time since I’ve done something in either of these programs that was just for fun, and not for a school assignment.

Pirates, Vampires and Mermaids, oh my!

Three studies from Life Drawing this afternoon. We had to use the model as a reference to create three rough concept sketches based on three themes chosen by the students - pirates, B-Movie posters (my favourite!) and mermaids. I’d like to go back to these and make finished versions of them at some point, especially the vampire grannies.

Thanks to Cat, who let me borrow her camera!

Last of the animation spam, for now

April 3rd, 2009

A few scenes from our final animation project. The backgrounds and the wardrobe were all done by Lissa Pattillo, of Kuri-Ousity.com.

… I have to admit, I had a lot of fun making that little kid freak out.

Animation tests 2

April 3rd, 2009

More Dillon tests, done in Flash this time. I might give these another shot, now that I can see how all-over-the-place the volume is. I do like how Dillon’s walk down the stairs turned out, though.
